RIG-I mRNA and protein expression were restored during IAV infection in CS-exposed RIG-I TG mice. For CS groups, RIG-I WT and TG mice were exposed to CS for 6 weeks in a smoke exposure chamber. Mice were infected with a non-lethal dose (300 pfu/mouse) of the IAV PR8 strain. Mock treated mice were inoculated with PBS. At the indicated time points, the mice were sacrificed, and lung tissues were collected for RNA preparation and protein extraction. PRR mRNA (a) levels were assessed by qRT-PCR and normalized to β-actin. Data are expressed as means ± SEM (n = 9). b RIG-I protein levels were determined at day 6 post-infection by western blot and normalized to GAPDH.
